DEPARTMENT OF BOTANY AND BIOTECHNOLOGY

VISION

To be a center that supports, coordinates, disseminates Botany and Plant Biotechnology education and Research for creation of employment, entrepreneurship & wealth for the community leading to sustainable development.

MISSION

To create conducive environment to foster highest level of academic achievement at the undergraduate  level for learning, teaching and research through critical thinking and high quality research and academic programs that will enable the students to be professionally competent to work in diverse of disciplines of biotechnology.

To create skilled manpower to realize the potentials offered by life science technologies to benefit the society and to create and transmit state of art knowledge in biosciences and to help commercialize biotech ventures. Department of B.Sc Plant Biotechnology started in the academic year 2002 and the Department of Botany was established in the year 2014. The Department offers B.Sc Botany and B.Sc Plant Biotechnology programmes. The Department actively doing Entrepreneur Development Cell, National Service Scheme, Youth Red Cross, Red Ribbon Club, Biojunction club activities and undergraduate level research and produced various research findings from thrust area of Herbal Biotechnology, Molecular biology and Paleobotany. It is run by eminent teachers actively engaged in bringing up tomorrow dazzling personalities by wrapping them with today’s and tomorrow's sciences. The Department is excelling in teaching and research in the thrust areas of Plant Biotechnology and related fields. The Department provides spacious laboratories with all modern facilities which can induce the young minds to shape their career.

The population of the world is increasing exponentially and is constantly pressurizing the resources available on the globe. To cope with that, scientist across the world have realized and recognized  Plant Biotechnology as a “technology of hope”, being a multidisciplinary area, encompassing Biology, Engineering, Medicines, Agriculture, Physics, Chemistry, Computer Science and Mathematics. It has emerged as a far reaching technology that helps  improving the quality and sustainability of life now and in the future. Hence the need of the hour is to tap the resources available in nature through trans-disciplinary approach. It can deliver the next wave of technology change that can be radical and even more pervasive than the IT Companies. The major application areas are in health care, pharmaceuticals, medicines, chemical industries, agriculture, animal husbandry, conservation of energy & biodiversity, abatement of pollutions and environmental studies. So it enables, multiple opportunities in the areas of Employment, Intellectual wealth, Entrepreneurial avenues and Industrial growth.
